Facebook to train young Kenyan women entrepreneurs on digital marketing


Young women drawn from Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru and Kisumu stand to gain from a training by Facebook on the use of social media as part of digital marketing.

The 1,000 female entrepreneurs will also be trained on content generation and how to grow their business online.

The training that will be done in collaboration with African Centre for Women Information and Communications Technology (ACWICT) will equip entrepreneurs with knowledge on the latest tools, insights and best practices to improve their businesses.

“The Boost Your Business Initiative, as designed by Facebook, could not have come at a better time, for the future of business growth in Africa lies in the ability to leverage on digital marketing platforms. This is an opportunity that every woman entrepreneur must run with, as the initiative is providing them ability to reach potential customers at the right time with comparatively reduced costs,” said Constantine Obuya, Executive Director ACWICT.

DIGITAL MARKETING

Participants will be required to have an operation business page on both Facebook and Instagram.

“After the training, the trainees will have access to mentorship and follow-up activities to further support them in advancing their digital marketing skills on Facebook and Instagram,” read a statement from ACWCT.

Social media in Kenya has been in use by entrepreneurs to market and sell their goods and services.

The trend has seen an increase in buy and sell groups on Facebook with Soko Kuu, Kilimani Mums Marketplace, Online Soko, Soko Huru and other major groups having over 100,000 users.

On Instagram, most fashion stores are using the photo filled platform to advertise their goods and even entice customers with the free delivery option.
