Cord suspends anti-IEBC protests to allow for talks with Jubilee

The Opposition coalition, Cord, has temporarily suspended demonstrations scheduled for next Monday to allow for talks over the composition of the electoral commission.

Cord’s co-convenor Johnson Muthama announced on Wednesday that the coalition will instead dedicate next week to console victims of police brutality.

The temporary ceasefire will expire on Sunday June, 5, and should they not get word from the ruling Jubilee coalition, more intense demonstartion will resume Monday June,6.

Mr Muthama explained that they had accepted calls by international community and various groups for a suspension of demonstrations  to give dialogue a chance.

He said the Opposition already has a team ready to engage in the talks.

He made the announcement at a media briefing where he was flanked by co-convenor James Orengo.

“We have not received any gestures directly or indirectly from Jubilee over dialogue,” said Mr Orengo.
