Sh2m bhang set ablaze after case closure

Police in Embu on Friday destroyed bhangi worth Sh2million and 40litres of ethanol that had been used as exhibit in a criminal case.

The bhang, which was packaged in over 2,000 stones, was set on fire at Njukiri show ground, about 10kilometres from Embu town.

The exercise was witnessed by Embu West OCPD Francis Sang, Embu court Principal Magistrate Samuel Mutahi and other police officers.

The order for the destruction of the illicit drugs had been issued by an Embu magistrate court after the closure of the case in which two men found transporting it were sentenced to two years imprisonment or a fine of Sh3million each.

TIP OFF

The drugs had been seized while being transported in a vehicle travelling from Embu town in February last year, after a tip off.

Mr Sang said they chose the location since it was away from human habitation.

The items which had been stored at Embu Police Station were transported in a police lorry under tight security to chosen location for the destruction exercise.

Mr Sang said they were working closely with the courts and members of the public to eradicate drug menace in the county.

He called on members of the public to continue volunteering information about drug peddlers with an assurance that they will not disclose the source of their tip offs.
