Raila’s daughter opts out of Kibra parliamentary race


Rosemary Odinga, the daughter of opposition leader Raila Odinga, will not be vying for the Kibra parliamentary seat.

Her name was conspicuously missing in the list of Nairobi parliamentary aspirants set to battle it out in the ODM primaries that was published on Wednesday.

Ms Odinga has not publicly announced her withdrawal from the race after launching her bid in January.

She is recuperating at an undiclosed South African medical facility after undergoing surgery to remove a brain tumour.

She was hospitalized at Nairobi Hospital on February 19 after complaining of persistent migraines. Initial reports indicated that she was having a brain tumor and on February 28 she was flown to South Africa for further treatment.

On March 1 she made her first statement since being taken ill thanking Kenyans for their get well messages and prayers.

Her father Mr Odinga left the country on March 10 to visit her and on arrival he shared a photo of a recovering Rosemary.
