Mugabe’s wife to appear in court for ‘assaulting’ sons’ female friend
Zimbabwe’s First Lady Grace Mugabe is set to appear in a South African court Tuesday afternoon after being accused of assault.
Mrs Mugabe has been under investigation by South African police after she allegedly assaulted a young woman known to her sons.
The incident took place on Sunday evening at Sandton, Johannesburg, where two Mugabe son’s Rob Junior and Chatunga stay.
The victim, 20 year-old Gabriella Engels‚ claims that she was beaten by the Zimbabwean First Lady with an extension cable for “chilling” with her sons.
She narrated how Mrs Mugabe confronted her and started beating her up at the lounge where she and her friends were waiting for her sons.
BLOOD FROM FOREHEAD
Ms Engels said the First Lady’s security stood there and did nothing and she had to crawl out of the room with blood oozing from her forehead.
Gauteng Province’s Community Safety Member of the Executive Council Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane told Times Live that she was appalled by the reports.
She added that it is unfortunate that the incident occurred during the month when South Africans are commemorating women for their role in the liberation struggle.
“I have instructed the Law Enforcement Agencies to investigate this case accordingly and ensure that justice is served,” Nkosi-Malobane told Times Live.
A South African lawyer interviewed by the same newspaper said Grace Mugabe may not enjoy diplomatic immunity from the assault charges if she was not in the country on official duty.
Zimbabwean media reported that Mrs Mugabe was in South Africa for a medical checkup.
Mrs Mugabe has in the past been quoted by the media saying that her sons are becoming unruly stating and that she has been seeking God’s wisdom on how to parent them.
