Facebook funds mobiliser Ndungu Nyoro is back.

Nyoro, popular for mobilising Kenyan Facebook users to raise funds for their needy countrymen, had suspended his online presence late last year after getting embroiled in controversy on the use of sh8,381,372 raised for lung patient Gladys Kamande.

Ms Kamande had accused Nyoro of denying her access to the funds, amid claims that she had intended to purchase a piece of land.

Nyoro has now registered an NGO, Affecto Foundation, that will raise funds for such philanthropic causes. It’s activities will be monitored by a board of directors.

“When the matter of Gladys Kamande came up, she just reminded of many other things we needed to do to move to the next level. It was time to outgrow unstructured appeals which were prone to abuse,” Nyoro told Nairobi News.

Affecto Foundation will run a single account for all health and education projects.

“This year 2018, we got our work cut out. We want to put more love in service. We want to follow the words of Francis Quarles, ‘charity is a naked child giving honey to a bee without wings.’ We want by the grace of God to do something beautiful for his people,” said Nyoro.

So far, Nyoro has managed to get dozens of Form One students to school through sponsors who offered full scholarships.

This was after Nyoro visited several homes in Kiambu county while vetting applicants for Equity Bank’s Wings to Fly scholarship when he realised that more children needed sponsorships.
