City house help who abducted her employer’s son arrested

A house help who went missing with her employer’s three-year-old son on Tuesday evening has been apprehended by police at a house in Kiserian.

According to Lynette Owande, the mother of the boy, the house help, who goes by the name Rachel, disappeared with Randall (the boy) on Tuesday evening, before she returned home from work.

The mother of three says she hired the lady on Saturday after being recommended by her brother’s maid.

However, due to the short period that she was under her roof, she had not yet gone about asking for documents like her identification card.

“She just started working last weekend on Saturday, and I didn’t want to start off by harassing her for an ID card, wanted to give her a week to become accustomed with the place, since she had come from Bungoma,” said Ms Owande.

Lynette’s eldest son, who is nine years old, said they had gone to play outside, and eventually went to eat lunch at a close friend’s house who is a neighbor after they saw the maid was dilly dallying on preparing food.

Hours later when the house help did not come for Randall two brothers the neighbor was alerted and that is when she decided to go and check their house, where Randall and the maid were nowhere to be seen.

“My husband and I rushed home immediately and after a quick investigation noticed that she had not carried any of her clothes, but she had taken some of mine. Randall’s clothes were also intact. We spent the whole of yesterday night searching for them,” she told Nairobi News.

The family reported the case to Rongai police station on Wednesday morning, and luckily a few hours after the report the police were able to trace the maid in Kiserian.

“We have found the boy and the maid in Kiserian, at a house that we believe they were using to stay. She will be remanded for questioning,” said Mutiga Ringera Ongata Rongai OCPD.
