Archbishop Tutu’s lesbian daughter weds longtime partner

Reverend Mpho Tutu, who is the daughter of retired South African Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu, on Thursday got married to her lesbian partner at a private ceremony in Netherlands.
Mpho Tutu and her partner Professor Marceline Furth held a civil ceremony in which they exchanged vows in Oegstgeest, South Holland Province, Netherlands.
This even as the Tutu parents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July 2015 by renewing their vows at St. George’s Cathedral in Cape Town.
“The couple are very grateful to their families and friends for their love and support‚” the family said in a brief statement.
Mpho and Furth are set to hold a wedding later in May this year in Cape Town.
This is the second marriage for both Mpho and Furth as the daughter of Archbishop Tutu was married to a US journalist, Joseph Burris with whom they had two daughters, Nyaniso and Onalenna.
“HOMOPHOBIC GOD”
Reverend Mpho is an Episcopal priest and the Executive Director of the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation.
Professor Furth is a professor in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the Vrije University in Amsterdam.
Retired Archbishop Tutu who is a Nobel Prize winner has in the past declared his support for the gay people terming the oppression facing them as the “new Apartheid.”
During the launch of the Free and Equal campaign in July 2013 at Cape Town, Archbishop Tutu said that he will never worship a “homophobic God” and would rather go to hell.
“I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place,” he said.
