Kitabu na Mbao initiative donates laboratory equipment to Thika School
A school in Thika is the beneficiary of laboratory equipment valued at Sh 550,000 donated by Bayer East Africa a global innovation enterprise organization.
Bayer, through the Kitabu na Mbao initiative, donated laboratory equipment worth Sh 550,000 (5,000 Euros) to Caritas Mariana Primary and Secondary School.
Kitabu na Mbao loosely translates to a book for Sh 20 (mbao being slang for Sh 20. The organization focuses on saving Sh 20 each day to help buy reading material for needy students.
The latest donation by Kitabu Na Mbao aims to empower students pursuing their O’levels at the school by providing a conducive learning environment for laboratory science subjects.

“Our vision is transforming and empowering the society and we are doing it one child at a time. This time round we decided on a lab project that will help students in their laboratory science studies,” said Martin Leshan, an employee at Bayer East Africa.
“Caritas Mariana School is an institution that helps a lot of less fortunate children by giving them education that will help them in future. That is why we elected to help the school so that it can be a pillar to all students who are hungry for education,” he added.
Every year, through a program called Bayer Voluntary Programme, the company supports employees on their own personal CSR initiative.
“Bayer is very passionate about volunteering work that is empowering, innovative, and most importantly has an impact to the community. We are an innovation company and science is in our DNA, our mission being science for a better life,” said the company’s Head of Communications, Anthony Mwangi.
