SNAPPY 7: Ruby – The music I’m doing now is only for business

Tanzanian singer Ruby may be new in the music industry but by the look of things, she is certainly going places.

Her smooth and melodious voice continues to captivate her audience. She sat down with Nairobi News and talked about her career and what she ultimately aspires for.

1. Briefly tell us about yourself? – Ruby is a Tanzanian musician and I have only been in the music industry for the past one and a half years. Right now I can say people are noticing and recognizing who I am.

2. When did you discover that you have a talent in singing? – Before I started to sing secular music I used to sing gospel. My father is a Bishop and I started sing in church when I was growing up. My uncle taught me how to play drums in church. It doesn’t mean I will never sing gospel music again, I will because God loves me and He is the reason my doors are opening for me now. The music I’m doing now is only for business.

3. Tell us about the singing competition you won in Tanzania? – The competition that made me switch from gospel to secular music was called Super Nyota Diva. The contestants were picked from different regions and I was representing Dar es Salaam. I won the competition in 2014 by beating other 13 contestants. They reason I won was because I knew who I was and what I wanted.

4. What was the inspiration behind your song Na Yule? – Barnaba who was a judge during the Super Nyota Diva competition wrote the song for me as a present for winning the competition. I love the song because people are recognizing me now.

5. How does it feel to be part of this season’s Coke Studio Show? – I thank God for this wonderful opportunity that I was given to sing together with Yemi Alade and Nyashinski for collaborating with me and hope that we can do something together in the future.

6. What message would you like to give to your fans? – After this season of Coke Studio Show I promise Kenyans that I will come to promote my new single Wale Wale. The video will be out soon. I also want to make it big in this music industry.
