Miss World in Kenya for children’s charity tour
Reigning Miss World, Mireia Lalaguna Royo, is in Kenya for a four day charity tour that will see her visit a project involving children in need of reconstructive surgery on cleft lip and palate.
Ms Lalaguna arrived in Nairobi Monday evening for her tour that will see her also present the former Miss World Kenya Idah Nguma with her Sh1million prize as one of five winners of the Beauty with a Purpose award at Miss World 2014.
The 23 year old who spoke during a press briefing on Tuesday morning said she looks forward to seeing the children whose surgery has been facilitated by a local charity organization Smile Train Africa.
The organization’s ambassador is Ms Nguma whose work with children earned her the Beauty with a Purpose Award.
The Spanish model and actress will also visit some of the projects of the anti-jiggers campaign whose ambassador is a former Miss World Kenya Cecilia Mwangi.
MISS WORLD PAGEANT
Ms Lalaguna is touring the country alongside the Chairlady of the Miss World pageant Julia Morley who during the press conference said she was impressed with the work Kenya was doing.
“In the future we look forward to having Miss World pageant held in Kenya one day,” said Ms Morley.
The tour is also in collaboration with the government through Brand Kenya along with the organisers of the Miss World Kenya pageant Ashleys.
Smile Train Africa the organization behind the reconstructive surgeries of children from poor back grounds with cleft lip and palates has partnered with several beauty queens among them the 2015 Miss World Kenya Charity Mwangi.
The current Miss World Kenya Roshanara Ebrahim has also taken up the children’s project as her cause.
